Communications Building re-encounters the General Post Office in Honiara, Solomon Islands, which poignantly embodies the formal structure of tropical modernism as associated with modern communications. Hannah Le Roux aptly points out, “Tropical architecture emerged from linkages made possible by modern communications within spatial systems of colonialism.” (“The Networks of Tropical Architecture,” The Journal of Architecture 8, no.3 (2003)). Stevenson's father designed the building in 1968. Archival imagery, contemporary footage, still images and a recorded interview between Stevenson and her father juxtapose colonial perspectives with postcolonial realities.
