Someplace Else: A Travel Archive (1991- ongoing)

RM gallery in Auckland, developing “Someplace Else: A Travel Archive”.

“Someplace Else” is an ongoing ‘travel archive’ drawing project spanning almost thirty years of traveling between Hungary and New Zealand. In January 2020, a casual two week residency at the artist run space RM offered the opportunity to re-visit these works. Using travel ephemera such as boarding passes, tickets, entry documents and event passes, the drawings record an ongoing relationship with Hungary. Almost two hundred works on paper have accumulated over time. The intimate works use processes of stitching, pin-pricking, collage and layering.

Recent travel restrictions shed a different light on the project. The residency developed the work towards a cohesive project exploring the complexities of relationships between two places.

A one day working studio event showed the works for the first time.
